To:  The Manager, Social Development

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA)

     The Speaker, Sakhisizwe Local Municipality

Warm greetings

Request for inclusion of civil society

The Sakhisizwe Civil Society Structures Forum (henceforth The Forum) would like your respective organs of state to recognise and involve us in the formulation and implementation of your programmes. In the current context, this would refer to the social relief processes that are being undertaken to curb the spread of COVID-19 and to mitigate food insecurity during this critical moment.

The Forum is a coalition of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), ratepayers and residents’ Associations, as well as people’s movements within the Sakhisizwe municipal area. It is not a political organisation but a structure whose main aim is to be actively involved in the development of our area and to generally assist in addressing people’s basic needs here and the rest of our beloved country.

To achieve the above, we are of the view that we should to be part of all processes that shape the destiny of our area, and thus ourselves. This entails sitting in meetings that take decisions and be involved in the implementation of such decision. In the current crisis, this would mean interacting with communities, submit lists of vulnerable families in need of food aid and to assist towards the delivery of food parcels and other necessities.

We hope that our communication will receive your favourable consideration and that this is the beginning of a mutually beneficial collaboration between the state and civil society.
